As an apprentice you will be trained to fulfil the role of an Early Years Practitioner and contribute to a high-quality caring, teaching and learning environment for children. This involves creating a stimulating and developmentally appropriate physical learning environment and providing a warm, friendly emotional environment in which the children can develop through individual attention and group activities.

As an apprentice you will:

Under supervision provide all aspects of care for children including care routines, observation, assessment and planning, parent feedback and transition using the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and Development Matters as a guide
To engage with Children’s Place processes such as induction, supervisions, training and conferences etc. and utilise the available support
To understand and adhere to Children’s Place Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, including the Prevent Duty
To be aware of up-to-date legislation in relation to safeguarding. The nursery manager is the lead safeguarding officer, in their absence the deputy manager or the most senior member of staff will fulfil this role
To follow all Children’s Place policies and procedures and respect Children’s Place beliefs
To work closely with the nursery SENCO and Early Years Practitioners to meet all children’s individual needs
To understand the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development
To understand and implement the Health and Safety File at all times
To understand Children’s Place Ltd Confidentiality Policy and adhere to it at all times
Look upon the nursery as a “whole”. Wherever possible use your initiative to identify where your help may be most utilised and be constantly aware of the needs of all children
To take ownership of the environment in which you work. Ensuring resources are looked after and well stocked
To be flexible within working practices of nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. laundry, cleansing of equipment etc
To attend ALL out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, parents evenings, summer fayre, children’s Christmas party etc
To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times
To understand that as part of training you will be required to move to other parts of the nursery
To build and support teamwork and partnerships, both internally and externally, with parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the trainee’s supervisor from time to time for example planning and key person profiles.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 2 Early Years Practitioner qualification
L1 Functional Skills in maths and English if required
The weekly day release is at Shipley College on a Wednesday

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On a successful completion of this apprenticeship the apprentice can progress to Early Years Educator.

With additional experience, an Early Years Educator can become the manager of an early years setting.
