The Kitchen Apprentice will play a key role in supporting the kitchen and front of house staff to run the café at Southside Youth and Community Centre. This includes working in the kitchen to produce food of a high quality, which is healthy and nutritious.

The post holder is expected to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and young people to ensure that the Café and Kitchen can collaborate with others to deliver projects, catering, and work experience.

Accountabilities and responsibilities are:

Support the day-to-day operation of the kitchen
Prepare and cook food as required and support catering functions
Follow all Health and Safety requirements
Work as a team and contribute to all kitchen tasks
Support other trainees and work experience students
Attend college as agreed and complete all course work
Contribute to the YCSW Vision, Mission and Values
Help ensure YCSW is responsive to community needs and that equalities issues are identified and addressed effectively
Ensure that young people and vulnerable adults within the organisation are safe, and follow agreed procedures where it is necessary to make safeguarding arrangements or child protection referrals
The apprentice will be expected to undertake bending, stretching, and lifting in the course of their duties e.g., preparing and cleaning the cafe, emptying bins, un-loading and re-loading the dishwasher

The apprentice will be required to work flexible hours outside of their normal working hours to help with functions, projects, and events. Prior notice will be given.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 2 Production Chef apprenticeship standard.

Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve level 1 and take the test for level 2 English and maths prior to taking the end-point assessment.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

After completion of the apprenticeship there may be an opportunity for a permanent role.
