Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprentice Advanced Level 3 (A level)

Southampton Engineering Training Association (SETA) is supporting RHH Franks Ltd to recruit a L3 Metal Fabricator Apprentice to join their Engineering team & develop within the organisation. Main tasks/focus is training in fabrication & welding as well as gaining extensive knowledge of engineering materials & standards used in the aerospace sector.

Apprentices working at RHH Franks Ltd will be working as part of the team, working to complete the requirements of the Metal Fabricator Standard. To ensure you gain the experience you will:

• Learn how to read engineering drawings
• Learn how to measure, mark out and produce sheet metal components and assemblies to precision tolerances
• Learn to do TIG welding
• Learn how to maintain workshop equipment and keep it in good repair
• Observe, learn and understand a wide range of engineering skills and processes
• Able to demonstrate these skills and processes by working independently or with a team to undertake tasks and increase overall contribution to the department
• Maintaining a logbook over the duration of the apprenticeship period. Recording training, projects that have been undertaken and skills learnt/learned

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Apprentices will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme. This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at SETA’s Apprenticeship Centre in Southampton.

You will also begin a knowledge qualification (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend SETA one day a week over two academic years.

After your initial training at SETA, you will be with your employer working on developing your skills; ultimately leading to your End Point Assessment.

SETA will make regular visits during this period of time to ensure you will covering all the required aspects of the Standard, which includes a practical element, a theory test and a professional discussion, regarding the work achieved with your employer.

These final tests are administered by an independent assessment organisation and take place in the last six months of the apprenticeship.

Further job specific training and development will be provided as required by the role. There may also be other opportunities to contribute to overall success of the business by taking on additional roles and responsibilities.
