Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship Degree Level 6/7 (Degree with honours/Masters)

Our Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship is open for applicants who don’t have a degree and offers a mixture of practical on-the-job learning alongside academic theory and knowledge. This is a three-year programme and you’ll be a police officer from your first day on the job as you earn while you learn, studying towards a fully-funded degree.

• You will be a warranted Police Officer from virtually the first day. So, whilst you will receive a comprehensive initial training programme and tutorship, you will be a deployable ‘front line’ resource as soon as you have demonstrated basic operational competence
• As the degree programme continues you will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of policing themes. Your default posting will be to a response patrol team but you will have the opportunity to broaden your experience with attachments to community and investigation teams as your learning and operational skills develop
• As well as making a real contribution to protecting and serving the people of the county you will, by the end of the third year, have completed all your degree related learning and achieved full occupational competence in the role of police constable

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

• The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) is delivered in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), with whom you will be registered as a student
• The degree apprenticeship runs for three years, and most of your training will take place on the job, working alongside our experienced police officers, with work-based study and attendance at one of our training centres in Welwyn Garden City or Letchworth
• Your training will begin with an initial period of classroom-based learning and you will join the operational policing team where you will be working. Your learning will cover a wide range of policing topics including officer safety training, safeguarding, emergency life support, crime investigation and operational policing skills to fully prepare you for your operational role
• Throughout your training you will undertake work-based learning and you’ll be fully supported applying new skills and knowledge as part of your operational duties
• You will be immersed in day-to-day policing which will let you contextualise what you are learning, enabling you to develop the skills and experience needed for this challenging role as a fully employed police officer from day one
• On successful completion of your learning you will be awarded a BSc (Hons) in Professional Policing Practice

• On completion of your degree and final occupational sign off you will enjoy the benefits of a comprehensive pension, pay and conditions package with incremental pay rises, pension scheme and up to 30 days annual leave a year
• You will also be able to build on your own skills base through opportunities such as Taser, Public Order, vulnerable witness specialisms etc. In addition you will be eligible to apply for more specialist policing roles such as detective, firearms, roads policing etc.
• You will have the opportunity to continue to develop your leadership skills and, providing certain conditions are met, you will be supported to pass promotion exams and begin to climb the rank structure
